The Brisbane Theosophical Order of Service group, as part of its commitment to helping the community, has arranged with the Habitat Brisbane movement and Brisbane City Council to have joint reponsibility for the on-going maintenance and planting of a particular piece of Brisbane parkland.

The area allocated to us is known as Moorhen Flats. It is a traingular tract of land at the confluence of Norman Creek and Kingfisher Creek between Wooloongabba and Coorparoo. As a result of the indiscriminate use of flood-prone areas and creek banks for factory development in the 1930's to1980's, this area, like others, was left as an industrial wasteland because it was too hard to build on and gain good access. Today Moorhen Flats is surrounded by industrial properties, but the City Council have made it into a nature reserve and parkland to provide some ' green lungs' within the industrial area and a haven for wildlife. It also serves to help with flood mitigation by providing controlled overflow areas for Norman Creek.

The Brisbane T.O.S. welcomes members and friends to come along on the first Saturday of each month between 2pm and 5pm to help with planting, weeding, mulching etc. Anyone is welcome but you must sign-on at the site in order to ensure the Habitat Brisbane group is covered for you by their insurance. Please bring gardening tools, hat, sunscreen, and afternoon tea to share.

The access point is the small car park in Deshon Street at the corner of Turbo Drive, where Norman Creek passes under and a railway viaduct crosses Deshon Street and the creek.
